Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,
We are pleased to announce the 16th event of the ALT conference series,
ALT'08. To find a slot in the dense conference timetable proved to be a
rather hard task. In order to minimise the interference with other meetings
of interest of prospective attendees (most notably E-MRS Spring Meeting, Strasbourg, France) and to stick to the
tradition of the ALT meetings, ALT'08 will take place between 13 and 18
September 2008, in
form of a four-day topical conference. In line with the philosophy of
preceding conferences participants are encouraged to explore the problems
and possibilities of the field and exemplify these by their most important
new results. The conference will feature oral and poster sessions, leaving
plenty of time for in-depth discussions in an informal atmosphere.
Key Topics
In addition to the traditional issues, as photonics, laser-matter
interaction and nonlinear processes, applications of nano-, pico- and
femtosecond lasers in materials science, nanotechnology, spectroscopy, etc.
separate sessions focusing on
· peculiarities of and processing using ultrashort lasers,
· the state-of-the-art of fiber lasers and their applications,
· medical and biomedical applications of photon sources,
· lasers in sensorics,
· lasers in photoacoustics, and
· lasers in metrology
will be organized.
Organizers
Department of Optics and Quantum Electronics, University of Szeged,
Hungary,
Department of Natural Sciences and Environmental Protection, College of
Dunaujvaros, Hungary,
Research Group on Laser Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences,
Szeged, Hungary
LaserSkill Ltd., General Physics Institute, Moscow, Russia,
Center of Laser Technology and Material Science at GPI, Moscow, Russia,
International Laser Centre, Moscow State University, Russia
The Venue
The conference will take place in Hotel Panorama**** Siofok, at the shore
of lake Balaton (http://www.panoramahotel-siofok.hu/), 110 km south-west from
the capital of Hungary, Budapest. It takes
less than 1.5 hours to get from Budapest Ferihegy airport to Siofok by car
or bus on motorway M7. Alternatively, in the fall Siofok is well served by
the Hungarian railway (see timetable at www.elvira.hu).

The conference fee includes lodging and full board: buffet breakfast, lunch
and dinner for 5 nights in Hotel Panorama**** (also including the use of
